It is with heavy hearts that we share the news that JuJu Bean, also fondly known as J.B. and who was the inspiration behind the naming of Bulldog Gym, passed away. J.B. was an English Bulldog originally owned by Sean Bowles -the first owner of Bulldog Gym. Since Sean’s passing in 2014, J.B. has been looked after by Amanda Crews, an instructor at Bulldog Gym. Today, we remember this dear bulldog who made everyone happy that crossed his path.
J.B.’s Early Years
J.B. wasn’t just a pet; he symbolized a tenacious spirit, loyalty, and the spirit of Bulldog Gym. J.B. was a constant companion to Sean Bowles. As Amanda Crews remembers so well, “In the ‘Early Days,’ I don’t think there were too many times that Sean was at the gym without J.B. right there with him. The two were almost inseparable.” This epitomized the kind of interconnectedness and attachment that J.B had for the gym and its members.
A Star of the Deer Festival Parade
J.B. himself was in one of the Deer Festival Parades, decked out and representing Bulldog Gym with pride. For many, it was the highlight of the parade as J.B. poured out his charm for all of the spectators on the parade route. His involvement was a true reflection of how the gym fits in with the community of Monticello—showing the warm and embracing character that is Bulldog Gym.
A Legacy of Love and Community
J.B. remained a valued member of the Bulldog Gym family under the warm wing of Amanda Crews. As time went on, his visits to the gym became less frequent, making each special moment even more precious. The legacy of J.B. stands for love, loyalty, and the power of community—values at the Bulldog Gym. Those are all qualities of an English Bulldog and what makes the perfect mascot for our gym. The spirit of determination, support, and loyalty lives within Bulldog Gym. Many would argue that the name “Bulldog Gym” was derived from the Georgia Bulldogs (UGA), but in reality, it is to pay homage to J.B. for the same reasons mentioned above and because they have all those qualities that resonate with the philosophy that we live by here at the gym.
As we say goodbye to J.B., we celebrate the joy he has brought into our lives and the lasting impression he has made in our gym community. He will be missed but never forgotten. Thanks, J.B., for being the true Bulldog that you are to our family in the gym.
