Before You Arrive

How to prepare for your session

A little preparation helps you stay comfortable and get more from your appointment.

  • Wear flexible clothing. Athletic pants, leggings, shorts, and a comfortable T-shirt or athletic top work well.
  • Please wear socks. Clean, comfortable socks help with hygiene and allow your trainer to safely assist with foot and lower-leg positioning.
  • Avoid restrictive clothing. Jeans, belts, skirts, dresses, and clothing with bulky buttons or zippers may limit movement.
  • Choose secure coverage. Because your legs and hips may move through different positions, wear clothing that keeps you comfortably covered.
  • Arrive hydrated. Drink water as you normally would, but avoid arriving immediately after a very large meal.
  • Share relevant information. Tell your trainer about recent injuries, surgeries, pain, dizziness, pregnancy, medications that affect balance, or medical restrictions.
  • Speak up during the session. Stretching may create mild tension, but it should not cause sharp, severe, or alarming pain.
Safety First

When assisted stretch may not be appropriate

Do not begin—or obtain medical clearance first—when any of the following apply.

  • Acute injury, suspected fracture, recent dislocation, or a recent muscle, tendon, or ligament tear.
  • Recent surgery or a medical procedure without clearance to resume stretching or exercise.
  • Fever, contagious illness, or feeling acutely unwell.
  • New or unexplained severe pain, significant swelling, redness, warmth, bruising, or loss of function.
  • Unexplained dizziness, fainting, chest pain, severe shortness of breath, or other urgent symptoms.
  • Known blood clot, active deep-vein thrombosis, severe vascular condition, or a clinician's restriction against manual stretching.
  • Unstable joint, severe osteoporosis, advanced bone fragility, or another condition that makes forceful movement unsafe unless specifically cleared.
  • Pregnancy, neurological conditions, joint replacements, chronic pain disorders, or other significant medical conditions that require modified positioning or clinician guidance.
This list is not exhaustive. When in doubt, contact your physician, physical therapist, or other qualified healthcare professional before booking. Bulldog Gym trainers do not diagnose injuries or replace medical or rehabilitative care.

Common Questions

Assisted stretch FAQs

Will assisted stretching hurt?

You may feel gentle-to-moderate tension, but the session should not involve sharp, severe, electrical, or alarming pain. Tell your trainer immediately when a position feels uncomfortable so it can be adjusted or stopped.

Do I need to be flexible already?

No. Assisted stretch can be adapted to your current mobility and comfort level. The goal is not to force a particular range of motion.

Is this physical therapy or massage?

No. Assisted stretch is a fitness and wellness service. It does not diagnose or treat injuries and is not a substitute for physical therapy, massage therapy, or medical care.

Which appointment should I choose first?

Choose the consultation when you have questions, relevant medical considerations, or want to try a shorter introductory experience. Choose Express for one or two priority areas and the 60-minute session for a more complete appointment.

Can I stop a stretch or decline physical contact?

Yes. You may ask to change or stop any stretch at any time. Your trainer should explain the session, communicate before and during physical contact, and respect your boundaries throughout the appointment.
